HC Deb 03 July 1882 vol 271 c1256
MR. W. H. SMITH

asked the Secretary to the Treasury, By what authority the accounts of the Irish Church Temporalities Fund, which are required by the 37th section of c. 42, 32 and 33 Vic. to be prepared annually, in order to be transmitted to the Controllor and Auditor General within three months of the expiration of each year for audit and report, have been delayed?

MR. COURTNEY

Sir, the change in the year of account was made by the Treasury at the instance of the Land Commission, who wished all their accounts to cover the same period. It might have been in stricter accordance with the Statute to have required the accounts to be rendered for a broken period of three months, instead of for 15 months, in making the transition; but it was thought this would be needless and troublesome formality.
