HC Deb 11 August 1882 vol 273 c1522
MR. O'SHEA

asked the President of the Board of Trade, Whether his attention has been called to a statement which appeared in an evening newspaper of the 10th instant to the effect that, during the last fortnight, the heading of the submarine gallery which is being driven in the neighbourhood of Dover has been advanced seventy yards; and, if this be correct, what steps he intends to take in order to bring to justice the person or persons guilty of this infraction of the Law?

MR. CHAMBERLAIN

On the 8th instant I received a further Report from Colonel Yolland, giving the results of his re-inspection of the Channel Tunnel works on the 5th inst. From this Report it appears that since the 15th of July—the date of Colonel Yolland's previous inspection—the boring has been extended for a distance of about 70 yards, in spite of the orders of the Court and of the Board of Trade. I am now taking the necessary steps under legal advice to insure strict obedience to the order of the Court.
