HC Deb 11 August 1882 vol 273 c1521
MR. GIBSON

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If he could state in what form the report was made to Mr. Justice O'Hagan to give his views as to the provisions of the Land Act relating to leases; was that learned Judge asked to suggest changes in the Law, or only to recommend amendments by which the existing Law might work more effectively; and, if he was asked to suggest changes in the Law, was there any precedent for such an application from the Executive to one of Her Majesty's Judges?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. PORTER)

, in reply, said, that the Question appeared on the Paper to-day for the first time, and he had not had time to make inquiries about it. He was not sure that the matter ought to be made a subject of communication to Parliament at all.
