§ MR. CHAMBERLAINIn answer to the Question of my hon. and gallant Friend, I have to say that I have not seen the newspaper this evening to which he refers, and I think that the statement which he says is contained in it must be incorrect. At all events, I gave the most explicit directions to the South Eastern Railway Company that the works were not to be allowed to proceed below the level of low water; and if that instruction has been disregarded I shall certainly take steps to see that it is properly observed.
