HC Deb 25 April 1882 vol 268 cc1409-10
SIR MASSEY LOPES

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, If he can now state when the financial arrangements for the year have been announced, what provision has been made to give effect to the Resolution of the 13th May last, with reference to the appointment of a Minister of Agriculture and Commerce?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GLASTONE)

, in reply, said, he had never intended in what he had said when the Resolution was passed to convey the impression that this particular subject, any more than any other subject of administration, was to be connected with the Financial Statement of the year. He did not think the moment had arrived when they could conveniently enter upon it. What he had had rather in view were the Votes regarding the Department with which the proposed Minister might possibly be connected. He would, however, endeavour to find an opportunity, when the state of Public Business would permit, to refer to the subject.
