HC Deb 02 May 1881 vol 260 c1536
SIR MATTHEW WHITE RIDLEY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he can state if he has come to any conclusion respecting the closing of Newcastle and Morpeth Prisons, or either of them; and, whether he contemplates the erection of a large central prison for that district?

MR. COURTNEY

, in reply, said, no conclusion had yet been arrived at respecting the closing of the prisons referred to. It was hoped the expense of erecting a large central prison might be avoided.
