HC Deb 17 March 1881 vol 259 cc1245-6
MR. BOURKE

asked the Postmaster General, Whether it would be feasible to establish telephonic communication between the Houses of Parliament and the clubs and private houses of Members; if so, whether he can state the expense of each telephone per annum?

MR. FAWCETT

, in reply, said, that the Post Office would be very glad to supply the telephonic communication suggested by the Question of the hon. Member if suitable rooms could be found for the purpose. The House was aware that there was considerable difficulty in providing such rooms; but his right hon. Friend the First Commissioner of Works had assured him that he would do all he could to provide them. When that was done, communication would be afforded at the following rates:—For distances of half-a-mile £15 per annum; for distances of one mile, £19 per annum; and for each half-mile beyond a mile, £4 per annum extra.
