SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTE (for Sir R. ASSHETON CROSS)

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Whether a memorial has been received from commissioned clerks of the Third Class in the Sasine Office, Edinburgh, complaining of the manner in which their position and prospects are affected by the Treasury Minute of 27th March last, regulating the offices affected by "The Lord Clerk Register (Scotland) Act, 1879," and praying for the production of certain Reports and Papers regarding their duties, for the appointment of an open Commission of Inquiry, and for the redress of certain grievances complained of; and, if so, what steps in the matter are proposed to be taken by the Lords of the Treasury?

A Memorial has been received from clerks of the Third Class in the Sasine Office, praying for an improvement in their position under the scheme of reorganization of the Register House Departments recently sanctioned by the Treasury. The Memorial has been submitted for the observations of the Deputy-Clerk Register before being considered by the Treasury.
