§ MR. BIRKBECKasked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether Her Majesty's Government, in the negotiations for a new Treaty with France, will endeavour to have the prohibitive duties on English caught fish removed, in order that English fishermen may be placed in as advantageous a position in French ports as the French fishermen are at present in those of England?
§ SIR CHARLES W. DILKEThe subject of the duties on English caught fish has already been discussed with the French High Commissioners. The proceedings of the Commission are, however, confidential; and I am unable, therefore, to state at present the manner in which the representations made to the French Commissioners on this subject were received.
