FITZPATRICKasked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether it is not a fact that representations have been made to Her Majesty's Government by the British Embassy at Constantinople, stating that it is advisable to increase the Consular Staff in 1132 Asia Minor; and, if so, what the intentions of Her Majesty's Government are on this subject; and, whether, having reference to Article I. of the Constantinople Convention, dated June 4th 1878, Her Majesty's Government propose to take any steps for the introduction of reforms into the Asiatic territories of the Sultan?
§ SIR CHARLES W. DILKESir, no such representations have been made. Her Majesty's Government will continue, in concert with the other Powers, to urge upon the Porte the introduction into the Provinces inhabited by Armenians of the improvements and reforms stipulated by the 61st Article of the Treaty of Berlin, and also to counsel the introduction of reforms throughout the Ottoman Empire.
