THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTONsaid, that the conditions of service for the Staff in the Indian Army differed in many respects from those of officers in British regiments in the Indian Artillery, and in the Engineers—some to their advantage, and others to their disadvantage. It was not desirable to assimilate their conditions. There was no intention, in revising the scale of offices in the Indian Army, to make any changes in the conditions under which they were at present.
