HC Deb 28 February 1881 vol 258 c1864
MR. W. H. SMITH

I wish to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty, Whether any orders have been given for the Squadron at the Cape of Good Hope to sail to Natal?

MR. TREVELYAN

Sir, the Squadron has been refitting for the best part of a fortnight, and will be ready for sea in two, or, at most, three days. No orders have been given to the Squadron to go to Durban, which is an open roadstead with bad anchorage, and is within four and a-half day's sail from Simon's Bay, which is an excellent harbour.
