HC Deb 17 February 1881 vol 258 c1194

Order for Second Reading read.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Second Reading be deferred to Thursday 3rd March."—(Mr. Attorney General.)

MR. T. P. O'CONNOR

said, that, as the Government would have observed, he had given Notice of Opposition to this Bill—to move "That it be read on this day six months." He, however, had no desire to keep that blocking Motion on the Paper; and if he had any encouragement to believe that the Government would meet the objection he had to the measure, he would withdraw the Notice. The Bill would be a good one if it were not for one or two blots in it; and he desired to know whether they would have any objection to accept the Amendment of the hon. Member for Stoke as to election expenses?

Motion agreed to.

Second Reading deferred till Thursday 3rd March.
