HC Deb 15 February 1881 vol 258 c1833
SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH

I am anxious to ask the Secretary of State for India a Question with respect to a telegram which I am informed has been received from South Africa. I understand that that telegram is to the effect that communications are now passing between Sir George Colley and the Boers at Laing's Neck. The telegram is dated from Dunbar, and I wish to ask the noble Lord, If he can give us any information as to the contents or nature of the communications?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

Sir, the telegrams received from South Africa were read, at an early period of the evening, by my right hon. Friend, and I understand from him that no information has been received from the Transvaal to-night.
