HC Deb 15 February 1881 vol 258 c1737
BARON HENRY DE WORMS

asked the Postmaster General, Whether any, and, if so, what decision has been arrived at as to the petition of the clerks of the staff of the Central Telegraph Office?

MR. FAWCETT

Sir, on several occasions during the present Session I have been asked a Question similar to the one which is now addressed to me by my hon. Friend. I can only repeat that the position of the telegraphists at the present time engages my most careful consideration, and that there has been no unnecessary delay on the subject. I am very anxious to fairly and completely investigate the matter; and it may, perhaps, be well to say that before arriving at a decision I shall ask some of the telegraphists (both Provincial and Metropolitan) to come and see me, and speak to me unreservedly as to their grievances on the subject.
