§ SIR. WILFRID LAWSONasked the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether the communications which he yesterday stated had been sent to President Brand regarding the conditions on which peace might be made in the Transvaal have ever been directly transmitted by our Government to the leaders of the Boers?
MR. GLADSTONESir, in answer to the Question of my hon. Friend, I would say that, having been in communication with President Brand, and having made a distinct and formal request to him that he would make known to the Leaders of the Boers the communications he had received from us, the Go- 630 vernment do not think they can, with propriety, adopt any other course.
§ SIR WILFRID LAWSONHas the right hon. Gentleman any information that President Brand has given this information to the Boers?
