HC Deb 08 February 1881 vol 258 c348
MR. GREGORY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether, having regard to the recent outrages reported in Edinburgh and London, and the number of persons wounded by shots from revolvers, he will consider whether some check could not be put upon the use of these weapons, either by an increase of the tax upon them or by regulations for the sale or use of them?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT

Sir, I entirely agree with the hon. Member that it is extremely desirable that some check should be put upon the detestable practice of carrying firearms; but the means of doing this are extremely difficult. It is, of course, a subject which will engage the attention of the Government.
