HC Deb 15 August 1881 vol 264 c1927
SIR WILLIAM PALLISER

asked Mr. Attorney General for Ireland, If he would explain whether sub-section 3, Clause 25 of the Land Bill, confers power on the Commissioners, with the consent of the Treasury, to grant a reduction of interest, upon the money due by a purchaser, in consideration of a prepayment, e.g., assuming the cost to the State of the money, inclusive of expenses, not to exceed 3¼ per cent.; and, whether the Commissioners would have power, with the consent of the Treasury, and in consideration of a pre-payment, to reduce the rate of interest to 3¼ per cent.?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. LAW)

, in reply, said, that as he understood the Question, it was whether, under the section as it now stood, the Commissioners would have the power to make special terms with a purchaser as to the amount of interest to be paid for advances? He was of opinion they would. They would, in fact, have the power to deal on any terms that the Treasury might sanction.
