§ MR. HEALYasked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, If he be aware that a large portion of the public garden in Kingstown, known as "Gresham Gardens," which is vested in the care of the Board of Works, is at present used as a kitchen garden, to the exclusion of the public; whether it is by an official of the Board of Works that this garden is being so cultivated; and, if he will take steps to restore the portion of the gardens to their original public purpose?
§ LORD FREDERICK CAVENDISHSir, the ground referred to as Gresham Gardens is not vested in the Board of Works, that Board having in 1866 transferred the residue of the lease of it to the Royal Marine Hotel Company on condition that it should be used only as ornamental pleasure grounds attached to the hotel. The forming part of the ground into a kitchen garden is at variance with the conditions under which the transfer was made, and the attention of the Hotel Company will be drawn to the subject. The public never had access to the ground while held by the Board of Works, as it was only required in connection with the harbour works.
