HC Deb 04 August 1881 vol 264 c849
MR. HUBBARD

said, on the second reading of this Bill he should move an Amendment which he had not yet formulated, and asked the Prime Minister for information as to when the Bill would be proceeded with?

SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTE

Sir, with reference to the Notice that has just been given by my right hon. Friend the Member for the City of London, I should like to ask the Prime Minister whether it is of great public importance that this measure should be proceeded with this Session, because I think that it would lead to more discussion than it was originally thought would take place upon it? I do not put the question in a hostile spirit, and if it is inconvenient to the right hon. Gentleman to reply to it just now I shall not require an answer at this moment.

MR. GLADSTONE

I certainly will consider the matter. I have no reason to suppose that any considerable opposition will be given to the measure; but nothing has been determined in reference to the matter at present.
