HC Deb 04 August 1881 vol 264 c821
COLONEL ALEXANDER

said, that although he had for the fourth time secured the first place for his Motion respecting Police Superannuation, he did not intend to bring it forward, and for two reasons—first, because he did not wish to stand in the way of the Government in their natural desire to obtain Supply, especially at this period of the year; and, secondly, on account of the unavoidable absence of the hon. Member for West Essex (Sir Henry Selwin-Ibbetson), who presided over the Select Committee which was appointed by the late Government, and who was anxious to take part in the discussion. He regretted this the more because he believed the Home Secretary intended to accept the principle of the Motion; but if next Session the Government did not deal with the subject of Police Superannuation, both in England and Scotland, he should be prepared to bring forward the Resolution of which he had already given Notice.
