§ MR. ANDERSONasked the Prime Minister, Whether he intended to introduce a Bill this Session to carry out the views of the Treasury on the subject of terminable annuities?
MR. GLADSTONESir, the explanatory Minute has been laid on the Table, and we hope to take the Resolution tonight.
§ MR. ANDERSONgave Notice that, when the Bill was introduced, considering the extreme impropriety of bringing in a Bill on the subject at a late period of the Session, he would move a Resolution to the effect that, however expedient it might be to convert £2,000,000 of Terminable Annuities, it would be more for the benefit of the people and for the prosperity of this country and of India to devote the surplus in reducing the duty on tea and coffee.
