HC Deb 29 April 1881 vol 260 c1412
MR. JUSTIN M'CARTHY (for Mr. PARNELL)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Whether Mr. James Daly, editor and proprietor of the "Connaught Telegraph," and now imprisoned in Galway gaol under the provisions of the Protection of Person and Property (Ireland) Act, has been refused facilities for carrying on his profession as newspaper editor?

MR. W. E. FORSTER

I have no information on the subject of this Question; but I may observe that Mr. Daly is arrested under a warrant which set forth that he had been guilty of inciting to disaffection, and so long as he is detained under the Protection of Person and Property (Ireland) Act he cannot be allowed to continue the prosecution of such incitement.
