HC Deb 04 April 1881 vol 260 cc559-60
MR. AKERS-DOUGLAS

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether there is any truth in the statement that Her Majesty's Govern- ment, on the recommendation of the Prison Commissioners, intend to discontinue the use of Maidstone Prison; and, further, whether it is their intention to transfer the assizes to Canterbury or elsewhere; and, if so, when such changes are to be made?

SIR WILLIAM HARCOURT,

in reply, said, there was no foundation whatever for the statements referred to in the Question of the hon. Member.
