§ In reply to Sir HERVEY BRUCE,
MR. GLADSTONEsaid, that, for the purpose of charging the duty according to the proposed new scale of Licence Duties, the value of a house and its appurtenances would be ascertained in the same way as at present under the pro- 443 visions of the General Excise Licensing Act, the 6 Geo. IV. c. 81,s. 5. If that method of charging were unsatisfactory, and the hon. Member would be kind enough to let him know in what particulars, he would consider them with care.
