HC Deb 28 August 1880 vol 256 cc599-600

Resolutions [27th August] reported.

SIR H. DRUMMOND WOLFF

asked, Whether it was the intention of the Government to make a statement with respect to affairs in the East—especially with reference to Turkey—before Parliament separated, or whether an opportunity would be given to private Members to raise the question? He had understood the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to say that such a statement would be made.

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

said, that, as far as he remembered the statement made by the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, it was on some particular point; and he had promised that, before the end of the Session, either a statement would be made or Papers would be laid on the Table. He was under the impression that the Papers had been produced.

SIR H. DRUMMOND WOLFF

No; the Papers do not refer to the Naval Demonstration in the East.

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

said, he would confer with his hon. Friend (Sir Charles W. Dilke) on the subject, and undertake that whatever promise was given would be carried out.

Resolutions agreed to.
