MR. M. T. BASSasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether it is the intention of the Government to introduce any measure affecting the Law by which imprisonment for debt now exists?
MR. ASSHETON CROSSA Bill has already been introduced into the other House of Parliament by the Lord Chancellor in order to amend the Act of 1869. Necessary amendments will be made in consequence of the Bankruptcy Bill which has also been introduced in the House of Lords; and when it comes down here it will be competent for the hon. Member to raise the question, when Her Majesty's Government will be in a position to state their views upon the subject, and to see whether any alteration of the existing law in reference to it is required.
