MR. J. COWEN

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he has had his attention called to the serious boiler explosion that occurred at Stone Clough, near Bolton, on the 15th instant, and if he will order an independent inquiry into the circumstances in accordance with the promise made during the recent discussion on Boiler Explosions?

MR. ASSHETON CROSS,

in reply, said, that a barrister had been ordered to attend, on behalf of the Home Office, the inquiry into the causes of the explosion referred to; but that he had given no promise to institute an independent inquiry with regard to it.
