HC Deb 25 July 1879 vol 248 c1297
SIR FREDERICK PERKINS

asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether there was not time for General Wood, after hearing of the disaster to the Prince Imperial, to have sent out on the evening of the same day, and at once, a force to discover his whereabouts, instead of waiting until the following morning?

COLONEL LOYD LINDSAY,

in reply, said, that the Question was one rather for the Cape authorities than for the Government at home; but that, as it was decided on the evening in question that no immediate steps should be taken, it was probable there was good reason for the decision.
