HC Deb 22 July 1879 vol 248 c964
CAPTAIN MILNE-HOME

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, When the Commission to inquire into the causes of disease among the salmon of certain English and Scotch rivers will be appointed; and if he will state the names of the Commissioners selected by the Government?

MR. ASSHETON CROSS

Sir, we are still in communication with the Treasury on the subject, and, therefore, I cannot make any definite statement at present as to the constitution of the Commission, though I hope that Mr. Walpole, Mr. Buckland, and one of the Scotch Fishery Commissioners will be members of it. No inquiry can take place until the spring. During the autumn the Commissioners can go on taking evidence; but if the disease should unfortunately occur again, they will not be able to make a personal inquiry into its causes until the spring.
