HC Deb 14 July 1879 vol 248 cc308-9
MR. STEVENSON asked

the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he is prepared to announce the course which, the Government intend to take in regard to the recommendations of the Lords Committee on Intemperance, particularly as to the hours of closing on Sundays; or, if the Government intend to embody their views in a Bill to be laid upon the Table of the House before the close of the Session?

MR. ASSHETON CROSS

Sir, it is not very convenient to take a particular part of the Report of the Lords' Committee on Intemperance, in order to ascertain the views of the Government upon that Report. I have no intention to introduce a Bill at present, and think it will be quite time for me to express the views of the Government when it becomes necessary to introduce a Bill on the subject.
