HC Deb 20 February 1879 vol 243 cc1511-2
MR. RITCHIE

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to introduce during the present Session any measure dealing with the subjects reported on by the Select Committee on the Metropolitan Fire Brigade?

MR. ASSHETON CROSS

Sir, this is an important subject, no doubt, and one to which the attention of the Government has been called; but I do not know whether, under the present pressure of Business, we are able to promise the introduction of a measure this Session. Attention is being particularly called to the matter owing to the fire which occurred at the Colonial Office in Downing Street the other day.
