HC Deb 20 February 1879 vol 243 c1521
MR. W. CARTWRIGHT

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether the Government had received any official communication with regard to the statement in the newspapers of to-day that disturbances had occurred at Cairo, that Nubar Pasha had been compelled to resign, and that Mr. Rivers Wilson had sent in his resignation?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

Sir, the Government have received a communication on this subject, which is substantially the same as that which has already appeared in the newspapers, with regard both to the disturbances at Cairo and the resignation or dismissal of Nubar Pasha. We have, however, received no information to show that Mr. Rivers Wilson has tendered his resignation.
