HC Deb 09 August 1879 vol 249 c647

Order for Committee read.

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

said, he would not ask the House to discuss the measure to-day; but if it was agreeable to the House he would just put the Bill into Committee and immediately report Progress. He might mention, for the information of the House, that he had re-arranged the Bill, so as to make the first two clauses deal with unlimited banks and provide for the limitation of their liability; and in Committee it would be for the House to decide whether they would go any further than those two clauses.

SIR JOSEPH M'KENNA

wished to express his regret——

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

If the hon. Gentleman does not agree to what I propose I will postpone the Order at once.

Committee deferred till Monday next.
