HC Deb 04 August 1879 vol 249 c64
MR. JAMES STEWART

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether he has fully considered the serious inconvenience occasioned by the protracted inability of Government to meet their obligations in respect to Loans for Public Works?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

, in reply, said, he was aware of the inconvenience. The sum at the disposal of the Public Works Loans Board was now reduced to £25; but he did not think, the Government could do anything till the Public Works Loan Pill was passed.
