HC Deb 25 March 1878 vol 238 cc1958-9
SIR CHARLES W. DILKE

asked the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether he has received any information as to the intentions of the Government of Spain with reference to the abolition of slavery in Cuba; whether the Moret Law has been or is now considered to be in operation in the island; and, whether there is any reason to believe that the measures for abolishing slavery in Porto Rico will be introduced into Cuba?

MR. BOURKE,

in reply, said, that more than a year ago the Government heard in an informal manner from the Government of Spain, that it was their intention to abolish slavery in Cuba; but since then they had heard nothing further on the subject.
