§ MR. JAMES STEWART
asked the Secretary of State for War, Whether he can give an assurance that full consideration has been bestowed on the means to be adopted for the defence of the Clyde in case of war?
§ LORD EUSTACE CECIL
Sir, full consideration is being bestowed on the means to be adopted in case of war. There are two batteries on the Clyde— one at Fort Matilda and the other at Dumbarton Castle. The former mounts three medium rifled guns and one 80-pounder, and the latter two 64-pounders. Submarine mining stores have been provided on the Vote of Credit.
