HC Deb 15 March 1878 vol 238 c1399
MR. O'SHAUGHNESSY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If, having 'regard to the fact that the Commission of Inquiry into Convict Prison Discipline as originally constituted contained an Irish Member who has retired from it, he will consider the advisability of appointing to it some other Irish Member?

MR. ASSHETON CROSS

Sir, I should have been glad to have done so at an earlier period; but I understand that the Commission have been extremely active in their labours since their appointment, and have visited a great many prisons. I do not, therefore, think it would be desirable now to add to their number.
