HC Deb 24 June 1878 vol 241 c121
MR. ASHBURY

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether, in the event of the Berlin Congress resulting in peace, Her Majesty's Government will consider the advisability of asking Parliament for powers to bring to England the Indian Troops now in Malta, in order to give Her Majesty the Queen and the people an opportunity of seeing representatives of our Indian Army; and, furthermore, whether, if for any reason it is not thought desirable to bring over the entire body, representative detachments from each regiment might be selected for inspection in England?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

Sir, I can only say at present that Her Majesty's Government have no measure of the kind in contemplation.
