asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Whether any official intelligence has been received from the Cape of Good Hope of the engagement reported to have taken place between the Kaffirs and British troops at Meguet Heights, in the Transvaal; and, whether the statements contained in the newspapers of the losses sustained by the British Forces are correct?

SIR MICHAEL HICKS-BEACH,

in reply, said, that he had not received intelligence of this engagement, and he hoped the statements referred to were not correct.
