§ MR. J. LOWTHERWith the permission of the House, I desire to make a correction of an Answer I gave a few evenings ago to a Question put to me by one of the hon. Members for Lambeth (Mr. Alderman M'Arthur) relating to ecclesiastical grants in Ceylon. I find I am reported, and quite correctly, to have said that "Lord Carnarvon has communicated personally with Sir William Gregory on this as on other subjects connected with Ceylon." I have since received a letter from Sir William Gregory, from which it appears that my noble Friend was mistaken in his impression that this was among the subjects upon which they had privately conversed. I mention this, as Sir William Gregory is anxious I should do so. The decision, however, arrived at by Her Majesty's Government is as originally stated by me—namely, to continue the existing grants.
