HC Deb 26 February 1878 vol 238 c379
MR. W. E. FORSTER

I should apologise to the House and the Government for the constant repetition of Questions with regard to the affairs in the East, were it not for the very great interest taken by the House in the present position. I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether he has obtained any information as to the terms of peace; and, whether the statement in the newspapers is true that in all probability they would be signed to-day?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUEE

I am sorry to say that I have no official information on the subject. We have received no further communication with regard to the terms of peace; and with regard to the reports that peace would be signed probably to-day, I can only say that we think it very probable that that may have been so, but we have received no information on the subject.
