HC Deb 07 February 1878 vol 237 c1211
MR. WHITWELL

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, If he can, consistently with public interests, inform the House whether a Conference of the-European Powers has been proposed by any one or more of the Great Powers; whether Her Majesty's Government has assented thereto; and, if he can furnish the House with any further information on this subject?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

A Conference of the European Powers has been proposed by the Government of Austro-Hungary; and Her Majesty's Government have assented to that proposal. I do not think it would be convenient at present to enter into any details.
