HC Deb 17 December 1878 vol 243 c956
LORD FRANCIS HERVEY

asked the Under Secretary of State for India, Whether he can give the House any information with respect to the telegram to which he had referred on the previous evening relating to the condition of Indian Finance?

MR. E. STANHOPE

In consequence of what occurred last night, I have looked over the recent financial telegrams, and found that they would have conveyed very vague information to hon. Members who are not conversant with the Finance Accounts of India. But as I understood that what right hon. Gentlemen opposite really wanted was the best information we have at our command, I have had a short statement printed giving all the details as clearly as we can; and copies of it are in the Vote Office.
