HC Deb 13 August 1878 vol 242 c1869
SIR JOSEPH M'KENNA (for Mr. M'CARTHY DOWSING)

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether it is true that a Commission has been appointed by the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland composed of five Clerks of the Crown and Peace and Mr. Herbert Murray; and, whether the Commission is now sitting in the Castle at Dublin; if so, what is the nature and object of the inquiry entrusted to the Commission?

MR. J. LOWTHER

I understand that a Departmental Inquiry is going on, but to what extent I am not aware. It is composed, I believe, as the hon. Gentleman's Question indicates. I only hoard of the Question last night for the first time, and have not been able to obtain full details; but I believe the statement the hon. Gentleman has made is more or less correct.
