HC Deb 11 April 1878 vol 239 cc1089-90
SIR ALEXANDER GORDON

asked Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether he will cause instructions to be issued to the officers of the Inland Revenue Department in Scotland, directing them to act in accordance with the recent decision of the Court of Session, that rabbits are vermin within the meaning of "The Gun Licence Act, 1870?"

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

, in reply, said, it was not at present intended to issue the instructions referred to, for the following reasons:—First, because the decision in question was given by the Second Division of the Court of Session; and, secondly, because the Court was divided in opinion. Still, in consequence of it, instructions had been given to the Commissioners of Inland Revenue to have a new case prepared and submitted to a higher Court, in which case, if the decision was confirmed after full review, it would be acted upon.
