HC Deb 07 May 1877 vol 234 c366
MR. NEWDEGATE

said, he had a Notice on the Paper on the subject of the Business of the House, and he would venture to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether it was the intention of the Government to move for a Select Committee to consider the subject of the Public Business of the House?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER,

in reply, said, that in consequence of the House being counted out on Friday night he had an opportunity of giving an explanation on this subject. He had now to state that Her Majesty's Government were not of opinion the time had come for the appointment of a Select Committee on Public Business.
