HC Deb 03 May 1877 vol 234 cc258-9
MR. ALDERMAN COTTON

asked the First Commissioner of Works, Whether the following statement, which appeared in the "City Press," March 19th, is a fact:— We understand that the Government have decided to purchase the block of houses between Bell Yard and Chancery Lane as far as the Law Fire Office for the purpose of the New Law Courts, and to widen Fleet Street by twelve feet?

MR. GERARD NOEL

Sir, in answer to the Question of my hon. Friend, I have to state that it is not in contemplation to purchase the block of buildings between Bell Yard and Chancery Lane, as far as the Law Fire Office, for the purpose of the new Law Courts; nor have the Government any intention of widening Fleet Street.
