§ CAPTAIN O'BEIRNEasked the Secretary of State for War, If he will consider the expediency of permitting a portion of the service in the ranks of non-Commissioned Officers, on being promoted to the rank of Officer to count towards the extra shilling a-day to which subalterns become entitled, after serving ten years in that grade, in order to obviate the great difficulty in connection with the promotion of non-Commissioned Officers to the rank of Officer?
MR. GATHORNE HARDY,in reply, said, that the matter was under consideration, and he hoped that an alteration might be made so as to effect the object the hon. and gallant Member had in view.
