asked the Secretary of State for War, If he would state how many recruits were enlisted over twenty-five years of age from the 1st June to the 31st December 1876, in accordance with the General Order issued on the previous date; and, how many infantry recruits under 5ft. 5 were enlisted from the 24th October to the 31st December 1876, in accordance with the General Order of the previous date?

in reply, said, that between the 1st of June and the 31st of December, 1876, 1,185 recruits over 25 years of age had entered the Army — the total number enlisted during that time being 18,676. Between the 24th of October and the end of December there were 1,331 recruits under 5 feet 5 inches, the total number enlisted between those dates being 5,500.
